Being a TV Runner is hard work but it is rewarding. Here is some information about the skills you need to become a Runner within the industry.

Do you need a degree?

A Runner role is the most entry level role into the Film and Television industry and you do not need a degree to get started. While you might find having a course relevant to the industry may give you an edge as it shows you are passionate and interested, you do not need to be a graduate to get your foot in the door.

Do you have to start as a Runner?

Being a Runner is an essential way to gain experience and learn how a set runs. It is one of the only ways you can enter the industry and you cannot jump ahead of the game. You will learn lots of new and relevant skills, have the chance to talk to and network with any department all while getting paid to be there. Film and Television sets would not run smoothly without Runners so while it may seem like you are completing insignificant tasks at times, everything you are asked to do is essential to keeping to the tight schedules set out by Production.
